If, when the heat is on, you can't do without a good dip, you should know that in 2022, the Portuguese coast was awarded with 393 Blue Flag beaches (sea and river), a symbol of bathing quality, awarded by the Blue Flag association of Europe (ABAE). Spread over 102 municipalities, from the north and south of the country and with islands included, the Algarve leads in numbers – 86.
Among the criteria for awarding the Blue Flag are: the quality of bathing water (five years in a row), the sand, quality access, the presence of lifeguards and support in energy efficiency and social responsibility projects, by of the dealers.
