Benavente

Benavente is located in the Santarém district, on the south bank of the Tagus River, more precisely in Lezíria Ribatejana, crossed by the Sorraia River. In the gastronomy of Benavente, eel stew, shad bread soup, migas with cod or spare ribs, wild ribatejana stew and torricado stand out. In sweets, bolo podre and rice pudding stand out. In Benavente, handicrafts are inspired by farming, bulls and the countryside: pine cone socks, wooden miniatures, sweets and mats, stuffed benches and silk horse chains. In this region, the running of the bulls and the bullfight are traditions that are still preserved today.
