Ferreira do Zêzere is located in the far north of Ribatejo, yet its landscape bears little resemblance to the region's typical floodplains. Deep valleys, pine forests, and streams characterize the region, with the Castelo de Bode Reservoir providing magnificent views and dotting the entire municipality. The history of Ferreira do Zêzere is marked by the presence of the Knights Templar, who established a line of defense there and one of the municipality's symbols: the Pentagonal Tower of Dornes. In the 21st century, the region underwent significant changes with the rising waters of the Zêzere River, which led to the displacement of hundreds of people. Today, the river is one of the municipality's greatest sources of wealth and a driving force for tourism.
