Castelo de Vide
Castelo de Vide is a picturesque village in the Portalegre district, with an ancient and enduring past, originating at the top of a hill in the Serra de São Mamede. One of the most striking features of this region's history is the existence of one of the largest Jewish communities, of which significant remains. The village's oldest built heritage is essentially Moorish and Christian. The gardens, the vast cultivated acres, the village's nooks and crannies, the style of houses, the mansions, the fountains, and traces of the past are the defining features of Castelo de Vide. In terms of cuisine, highlights include "sarapatel" soup, made with lamb giblets, cooked blood, and tripe (served with bread), goat "cachafrito", and Castelo de Vide-style liver.
