Celorico de Basto

The municipality of Celorico de Basto, in Braga's district, is located in a mountainous region, under the influence of Alvão, Cabreira and Marão serras. The bucolic landscape is marked by the valleys formed by Tâmega river tributaries, dense forests and fertile soils conducive to agriculture and pastoralism. The region still retains the typical rurality that has always characterized it. Celorico has a vast historical heritage, starting with the Castle of Arnoia, which foundation is older than the country's nationality. We suggest for you to make a break at the Miradouro do Castelo belvedere, that has a panoramic view over the entire surrounding area. The Núcleo Museológico da Quinta do Prado and the new Centro Interpretativo do Castelo are also worth a visit. Nature in its pure state is one of the main local attractions. There are natural wonders all over the territory. The tourist circuit of Moinhos de Argontim is a good option to visit this heritage. The Molares and Viso picnic parks, of rare beauty, are perfect places to spend some quality time with the family. The festivities paying homage to São Tiago are the maximum exponent in terms of local popular traditions. The gold thread embroidery and linen weaving are the most typical crafts of the region. The table in Celorico is expected to be laden. The arroz de cabidela (kind of chicken stew made with chicken blood and rice), cozido à portuguesa (kind of stew made with different meats, sausages, cabbage and potatoes) and smoked meats made in the locality are the delights of the regional cuisine. The perfect accompaniment is, of course, the Vinho Verde.
