Esposende is a town situated on the north coast of Braga district, more precisely at the mouth of Cávado river. Surrounded by pine forests, it is known for the beautiful beaches located in the Área de Paisagem Protegida do Litoral de Esposende (Protected Landscape Area of Esposende Coastline). In the city center you can visit the Igreja da Misericórdia, the chapel of Senhor dos Mareantes and the Municipal Museum. Pay also a visit to Largo do Mercado and Largo de São Sebastião and the castle of São João Baptista. The original Complexo das Piscinas Foz do Cávado (pool complex), situated on the river, can be found at river Cávado's waterfront. The Parque Natural do Litoral Norte (Natural Park of the North Coast) deserves an attentive visit: it is a place of great natural wealth, where the dunes and the estuaries of the rivers Cávado and Neiva, the pinewood and the variety of species of fauna and flora stand out. Here is suggested for the visitors to go on guided tours, river and trail tours, for bird-watching sessions and for other environmental activities. Be sure to sample the delights of fish and seafood, prepared so well in this part of the country, and give a little jump to Fão to appreciate and take with you the unforgettable clarinhas and folhadinhos de Fão (kind of sweet and fried pies with a pumpkin and cinnamon filling)!
