The National Centre of Culture (CNC) is a space for meeting and dialogue among the various ideological and political parts, defending a free and multidisciplinary culture. A great deal of its action is devoted to defend the Portuguese cultural patrimony, to divulging the role played by Portuguese culture in the world and to the updating of its relations with other cultures. Open since 1996, the Canvas Gallery centres its programming on the divulgation of the work of Portuguese and Brazilian artists. Among the regular artists are the Portuguese Albuquerque Mendes, Ana Marchand, Dionísio Souto Abreu, Gil Heitor Cortesão and Graça Sarsfield.
