Opened in 1993, the Municipal Library is a pleasant place, which invites you to a closer look at books. It has a journal and magazines’ reading spot, a videoteca (where videos are kept for people to refer to when needed), a ludoteca (where toys are lent for children to play) and an auditorium.

Opened in 2007, it is the result of the merger of the “José Saramago” Municipal Library and the Barrancos School Library.

The library has educational resources, such as the Reading Chests or the Small Stories Baskets. One can search for books as well as borrow them. It has internet computers.

The building of the Municipal Library of Caminha dates back to the 18th century and was once a courtroom and a prison. In 1989 it became a cultural space, comprising the library and the Municipal Museum.
