The Solar dos Albuquerques dates back to the 18th century and features 19th-century gates by the Italian architect Bigaglia. It follows the general lines of the 14th- and 15th-century style, featuring a beautiful continuous front, adorned with six apron windows. It houses the Sátão Municipal Library.

Although the certainties are not absolute, everything suggests that Fernão de Magalhães was born in this house, and there is even a reference to Sabrosa in the navigator's will. Being a rural farm house, it has popular civil architecture, characterized by small openings, without erudite elements. The coat of arms inserted in one of the cornerstones of the house would have been chopped by order of King Manuel I, as the navigator made his great voyage of discovery at the service of the kings of Spain. The slope of the Mount of São João, relatively close to the "Table of the Moors", in an elongated platform that ends in the escarpment Rabagão, gathered fragments of "tegullae" and a half tile. The D. Maria Pia Bridge, built little above the D. Luís I Bridge, allowed the railway connection between the two Douro sides. Its construction, planned by Eiffel, began in January, 1876. It was built with great precaution because its only roadway is hanging at about 61 metres above the river’s water level. In all the construction were used about 1600 tons of iron, which didn’t even scratch its lines’ harmony and elegance. The works were concluded on November, 4th, 1877 and nowadays, although it is closed, we can still admire its beauty and usefulness.
