The library bears the name of José Tavares Afonso e Cunha, a famed lawyer from Murtosa, who danated his books to the institution, so that they would be preserved. The heritage, a coillection of documents, is currently being digitalized.

This library belongs to the Calouste Gulbenkian library network and is located in the Civic Center of Momento Associativo.

A library composed of two reading rooms destined to adults and another for children, a multi-uses room, a reunion room and work cabinets. It has 1100 books for lending, 3000 books for consultation and 1700 documents available in the audiovisual area.

The Baixa da Banheira section of the Municipa Library is located in the Cultural Forum José Manuel Figueiredo.
