Murtosa

The municipality of Murtosa is located on the coast, in the Aveiro region. Its geographical position left it far from major communication routes, surrounded by the Ria de Aveiro, the sea and the countryside. The landscape, markedly flat, is crossed by several channels of the so-called Ria of Aveiro, highlighting the Murtosa channel. The lagoon characteristics associated with the Atlantic influence give it a unique landscape setting. The beaches are very popular, not only due to their intrinsic characteristics but also due to the maintenance of an ancestral fishing art, the "xávega" (trawl fishing net). The region's gastronomy is very popular, especially for lovers of good fish and seafood. The eel stew is a must.
