The original public library was opened in 1886. In turn, this building facilities were inaugurated in 2008. It has an auditorium, a multi-purpose room, an exhibition hall and an internet space.

The Centro Municipal de Cultura de Castro Daire (Municipal Cultural Centre of Castro Daire) is composed of two modules, the Municipal Library, a part of the National Net of Public Reading, and the Municipal Auditorium. The Library services are free and aim to provide all the inhabitants with access to culture, education and leisure. This building has a capacity for 200 people, has a juvenile room, an adults room, a multimedia room and a mutiuses room. It features photography exhibitions, as well as events during the summer, namely the books fair where books aree sold with a discount.

It is a Municipal Library of Coimbra polo. Integrates an internet space.

The Library has a documental ground of over 18.000, which includes a large variety of themes in different kinds of supports: monographers, periodic publications, CDs, audio, DVDs and video. It has several sections: the audiovisual room, the children room, the regular reading room, the reading room for periodic publications, the adults’ reading room and the reference or self-formation room.

A very pleasant space, not only for reading and requesting books and documentation, but also with museum sections and temporary exhibitions. For little ones, it regularly organizes "Story Hour."
