São Brás de Alportel
São Brás de Alportel is located in the heart of the Algarve's leeward side, between the Barrocal and the Caldeirão mountains, making it the youngest municipality in the Algarve. The cork industry contributed greatly to its development and is now a hallmark of the municipality. When it comes to crafts, the esparto grass, tiles, roof tiles, and the typical donkey bricks are well-known, as are the "atabua" chairs, palm brooms, and doormats. Regarding the culinary delights, the gazpachos, chickpea "açorda" with chicken, wild rabbit, and soups stand out. In the confectionery, the influence of honey, almonds, and figs is strong, as evidenced by the delicious stuffed figs or the typical São Brás almonds. And to toast, we suggest the traditional arbutus brandy and carob liqueur.
