São Brás de Alportel
São Brás de Alportel is located in the Algarve side, between the barrocal and serra do Caldeirão, being the youngest municipality in the Algarve. The Cork industry and contributed to its development and is today a brand image in the municipality, which can learn more through the Cork Route, traversing the itineraries and suggested routes, since the Cork groves to the droid. Worth knowing the region especially during the season of festivals and fairs, such as the emblematic Sierra, fair point of must-see for anyone living or visiting the Algarve. Held annually in late July during three days turns the village in a food festival, music, crafts and animation, where are the flavours and knowledge of this region. No less known is also the feast of Flowery Torches on Easter Sunday, with the procession of the resurrection. A unique opportunity to enjoy the village covered in flowers and balconies adorned with beautiful bedspreads, in honor of the risen Christ. When it comes to craftsmanship, are known works in esparto, tiles, the tiles and the typical dumb bricks, as well as the chairs of "atabua", the brooms of Palm, the mats, among many other ancient knowledge. In relation to the pleasures of the table, this region offers a rich and diverse cuisine, with a predominance of Mediterranean flavors, like the galianos, the grain and bread with chicken, the rabbit and the soups. In the sweets menu is great the influence of honey, figs and almond, as testified the delicious figs full or typical almonds of São Brás. And to toast, suggests the traditional brandy of carob liqueur and medronho.
