The siege of the "municipium" in the roman days, in the 1st to 4th centuries bC, and later on th siege of a small mdieval parish. Its architectural heritage includes the Roman Arch, a National Monument, the pillory, the mother church, the roman amphitheatre, the roman bridge of Ribeira de Cavalos, the chapls of Our Lady of Luz (Light), Our Lady of Socorro (Help) and of Saint Sebastião, the menhir of the Pimheiro dos Abraços and several manors. Village integrated into the Alvão Natural Park, located close to the Olo River. This village, which seems to have remained indifferent to the changes that time brings, retains its beautiful rural houses, made of granite and with slate roofs. King Sancho I granted it a charter in 1196 and it was the county seat from 1514 until the 19th century. From this height, the pillory and the old Town Hall still survive. Fisgas do Ermelo, one of the largest waterfalls in Portugal, falling 100 meters high.

Located on a foothill, above a wide plain, Idanha-a-Nova still has an archaic aspect. The buildings show vestiges of the 16th and 18th centuries and there are still some elements left of the old medieval walls. The abundace of clay underground made it a pottery centre. Vestiges of the castle, whose construction was ordered by Gualdim Paes, and several churches and manors, namely the House of the Marquis of Graciosa and that of the Count of Idanha-a-Nova stand out. The sanctuary of Our Lady of Almortão and the Ponsul dam are located nearby.

A village located at an altitude of about one thousand metres, part of the so-called "Terra Fria" (Cold Land). It gave its name to the Natural Park of Montesinho, of which it is a part. A special note to the beautiful surrounding landscapes, with the green of the morasses in contrast with golden and reddish of the woods and to the popular buildings in schist and granite. Its inhabitants still maintain some ancient communal uses. Do visit the "casa abrigo" (shelter house) and the dam. The area is also good for mountainering.

This recreational and educational center addresses the theme of the Portuguese Discoveries.
