A Lugar das Letras, em Gouvães do Douro, foi em tempos uma escola primária que agora se apresenta como uma casa de arquitetura original que matém a inspiração na temática escolar. Esta casa é composta por quatro quartos, com capacidade para oito pessoas no total mas tem a opção de três camas extra e uma de viagem. No exterior, há uma piscina e um jardim propícios a um momento de relaxamento com o tranquilo cenário das paisagens verdejantes dos montes e vales.

Em plena paisagem cénica do Douro Vinhateiro, a Casa de Gouvães renasceu a partir de ruínas. Convertida numa unidade de turismo rural, esta casa de férias é alugada em regime de exclusividade. A casa dispõe de três quartos duplos e tem a opção de alojamento em três camas extra. As pedras de xisto ancestrais e a varanda aberta para os socalcos são o ponto de partida para descobrir a elegância e requinte deste espaço surpreendente. This building was built by the corregedor Francisco de Almada e Mendonça to serve as Casa Pia, the year was 1790. This had various uses such as: prison of recruits and military criminals, secretariats and offices belonging to the garrison at the port, where resided the Bachelors official Royal police guard and North region headquarters (installed on the north side of the building). Years later was converted into headquarters for the distribution of farm, pagadoria, military headquarters, electric telegraph station and civilian Government. Be sure to visit this Keep, one of the few remaining vestiges of the old Abrantes Castle, dating from the 12th century. The Keep was built later, at the beginning of the 14th century, during the reign of King Dinis. The tower has a quadrangular plan and is located in the center of the parade ground.
