São Pedro do Sul

São Pedro do Sul is located in the Dão-Lafões sub-region, dominated by the Gralheira mountain range and bordered by the Paiva and Vouga rivers. The municipality was created in 1836, resulting from the division of the former municipality of Lafões, of which it was one of the two capitals, along with Vouzela. The São Pedro do Sul Thermal Baths are one of the municipality's landmarks and are among the most popular resorts in the Iberian Peninsula. Their origins date back to Roman times, and until 1910 they were known as Caldas de Lafões or Caldas da Rainha Dona Amélia. The local cuisine is rich in diverse flavors, such as wood-fired roasted goat, Lafões-style veal, cabidela rice, pork rinds, sardine balls, and Lafões-style duck rice. All accompanied by the region's excellent vinho verde!
