In the heart of the town, in a large square, stands this imposing medieval castle, with a quadrangular plan and protected by cylindrical cubes, crowned with battlements, Gothic portals and a tall square keep. This, around 44 meters high, has a hall with a barrel-vaulted ceiling. At the entrance to the fortress, an armored marble tombstone inscribes the record of the castle's foundation, in 1359, by King Pedro I. At that time it was constituted as a defensive articulation with Estremoz, Fronteira, Évora Monte, Avis, Alter Pedroso, Marvão and Portalegre. Located on the left bank of the Douro River, directly facing Oporto's Ribeira (riverside), the Gaia Ribeira is a lively area, most especially during the summer. The tourists do not resist the temptation of a walk on this side of the river and of visiting the Port Wine Cellars. The Cais de Gaia, a space that includes many bars and restaurants with lovely terraces near the banks is more recent.

This mountain is widely varied bith in flora and in fauna. The boar, the deer and the wolf stand out. As for the vegetation, a special note to the pyrenean oak, that covers an area of 6500 hectares. It is the largest pyrenean oak wood in the entire world. A the top of the mountain, you may also visit the sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Serra (Our Lady of the Mountain), a tribute to Saint Teresinha.

During this walk a visit is recommended to the following places: the gothic Church of Castelo (Castle/Saint Maria of Anunciação), the belevedere of the Alto do Cruzeiro, with views of Lourinhã and Areia Branca, the Convent of Saint António, the Museum of Lourinhã, the Monument to the Battle of Vimeiro, the Beach of Porto Dinheiro, the shellfish beds of the shellfish house Frutos do Mar and the ruins of the Paimogo Fortress.

This village owes its name to the existence of large Neolithic caves in the region, linked to various local legends. Here you can visit the main church, rebuilt in the 16th century, with a tomb, patterned tiles lining the entire nave, and a 15th-century polychrome stone bas-relief, as well as a medieval bridge. Wooden miniatures represent local crafts.

It is the largest urban park in the country, with an area of 83 hectares that extends to the sea. Designed by the architect Sidónio Pardal, it is an open space with water mirrors, lawns, small woods and about 10 km of paths. It has excellent conditions for the practice of sports or, simply, for walking in contact with Nature. In the park, you can also visit the Water Pavilion and the Sea Life aquarium.

Located at the former Colégio da Sapiência, this museum opened its doors in 2000. Here you may enjoy a place equipped with show-window destined to shelter temporary exhibitions and a room where works of art belonging to the house collection are kept. You may also visit the chapel and a turret which offers a beautiful panoramic view over the city.

The Memorial Museum is housed in the Fort of Bom Sucesso, which in itself is reason to visit him, and aims to promote the history and national symbols. The permanent exhibition covers topics as "the Portuguese Soldier of the 20th century", "military aviation history, the flags throughout history and an extensive collection of diverse military weaponry. Also organises various activities aimed at younger men.

The New Art and design come together in a unique space in Aveiro.
