It's one of four gates that provide access to the walled interior of Monsaraz Castle and reflects the military concerns of the time. Each gate is composed of granite, red clay mortar, and lime. This one, like the Alcoba Gate, is carved in a round arch.

There's also a small picnic area with refreshing shade, perfect for leisurely family lunches. Located halfway between Grândola and Santiago do Cacém, its main drawback is the access, much of it via dirt roads.

This church façade maintains the masonry decoration from the 18th century and the doorway is still from the 17th century. The inside presents a nave with the plan in Latin cross. From the primitive construction from the ends of the 13th century it remains an pointed arch in granite.
