Freixo de Espada à Cinta
Located in the southernmost part of the Bragança district, Freixo de Espada à Cinta borders Spain and is part of the Douro International Natural Park. It is bathed by the Douro River and is home to a number of rare bird species, including the black stork. The Douro River imposes its presence, and it's hard to resist a boat ride that takes us to Spain. It is the most Manueline village in Portugal, boasting numerous doors and windows with motifs alluding to the Discoveries, despite its location far from the sea, demonstrating its prosperity during the reign of King Manuel. Also worth mentioning is a traditional art unique to the country: silkworm breeding and the artisanal extraction of silk, from which the most beautiful quilts, pillows, and cloths are obtained.
