Vinhais
Vinhais belongs to the Trás-os-Montes region and is located in the Douro river basin, being crossed by the Tuela and Rabaçal waters. With a very pronounced relief and deep valleys, it has altitudes between 300 and 1273 meters and has a sometimes extreme continental climate. The region's vegetation is rich and diverse, with several native species, and the fauna is of European importance given the existence of endangered species such as the Iberian wolf, the golden eagle or the white stork. With a cheerful and hospitable spirit, the people of Vinhais have strong pagan traditions represented in popular festivals that surprise outsiders, such as the Festa dos Rapazes or Festa dos Caretos. In gastronomy, trout from the Tuela River, hunting and the famous smoked meat stand out.
