Macedo de Cavaleiros

Macedo de Cavaleiros boasts a remarkable natural heritage, notably the Azibo Reservoir Protected Landscape, a vast area covered by the Natura 2000 Network, the Sabor River valleys, and the Serra da Nogueira and Serra de Bornes mountains, ideal for hang gliding and paragliding. The reservoir created with the construction of the Azibo Dam has provided, among other tourist and biological benefits, conditions for non-motorized water sports, and its beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag. Pagan legends and folklore are strongly present throughout, preserved in the traditions of the Caretos, Pauliteiros, Latos, Bombos, bagpipes, and philharmonic music. All this while enjoying the region's delicious cuisine, which includes sausages, mushrooms, dried "casulas" (bean pods), excellent wine, chestnuts, olive oil and a whole range of delicacies that will leave you longing for more.
