Manteigas

A small town located on the eastern slope of the Serra da Estrela and in the Zêzere River valley. It is part of the Zêzere Glacier Valley, a region visibly marked by the action of the ice that, after disappearing, left U-shaped valleys, erratic blocks, hollows (Covão da Ponte, Covão d'Ametade), polished rocks, and several lakes. A landscape of immense beauty, intensified by winter snowfalls! Gastronomically speaking, Manteigas offers a variety of regional delicacies that will leave you wanting more, from the famous baked beans, to "chanfana", sausages, and dry goat cheese. For dessert, try the soda cake, the crista cake, "cavacas", and corn porridge. Finish your meal with a juniper brandy or a "jeropiga".
