Sardoal

The small municipality of Sardoal is part of the district of Santarém and is made up of just four parishes. The fact that it is small and the type of houses make it picturesque and charming, especially in the spring and summer months, when balconies, walls and windows are filled with flowers, from which the name by which it is known comes: Sardoal, Vila Jardim (Garden Town). In gastronomy, highlights include "migas", pork sausages, "tijeladas", "broas secas dos Santos", "broas fervidas", "fritos de abóbora" and "bolos amassados à boca do forno" (oven-baked cakes). Thanks to the dedication of these people, the craftsmanship continues to survive and there continue to be artisans who dedicate themselves to pottery, the manufacture of straw fans, wooden miniatures and linen embroidery.
