Vila Nova de Foz Côa
Vila Nova de Foz Côa is part of the Douro Demarcated Region, a fertile valley located on the banks of the Douro and Côa rivers. This privileged location made it a coveted region for ancient peoples, with human presence dating back to the Paleolithic period proven. The Côa Valley Archaeological Park, the world's largest open-air archaeological museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and, of course, the region's main attraction, was born there. Scattered across various sites, it's possible to find traces of the Paleolithic, Neolithic, Copper Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age periods, in a fascinating journey through time. As for gastronomy, almonds, figs, olive oil, honey, and wine are the stars of Foz Côa, also known as the Almond Capital.
