Vizela

Vizela is one of the youngest counties of Portugal – elevated to this category in 1998 –, which year after year sees rising new infrastructure and modernised its accessibility. Situated in the basin of Vale do Ave, and green for nature, is recognized by the famous medicinal waters and thermal tourism, benefitting from the proximity of the river Vizela. In spite of the baths are closed, always worth a stroll through the pleasant Park Termas of Caldas de Vizela. At the same site, the municipal field of minigolf "Fonseca and Castro" is ideal for fun to kick in one of the most well equipped rooms of this modality. In the city centre, on Praça da República, stick your finger in the sulphurous waters of the fountain of Hot Espresso. Legend has it that whoever does take forever "prisoner" of Vizela. Enjoy your stay to visit the shrine of St. Benedict of pears, the patron saint of the city, and enjoy the magnificent panoramic views of the Valley of the river Vizela. The festivities in honor of St. Benedict day is celebrated July 11, with a procession and mass pitched. The day March 19 is also a special day, commemorates the creation of the municipality, with various festive events. The largest and oldest popular event of the year happens, however, in the first fortnight of August, with the festivities of the city and the County. The procession is the highlight of the Festival, when hundreds of extras and floats parade on the streets of the city. Talk of Vizela is also talking about good eating. Be sure to taste the delicacies of the Earth, accompanied by good wine from the region. Before I left, nothing like tasting the Bolinhol, also known as "sponge cake covered", considered the banner of traditional sweets of Vizela.
