Crato

Belonging to the district of Portalegre, the municipality of Crato is located in Alto Alentejo and is characterized by being picturesque and full of history. Rurality is a municipality feature, with agriculture being the main economic driver of the region, but cork extraction and tourism are clearly important, along with activities related to crafts and gastronomy. In gastronomy, there are many flavors to taste. The potato "migas", lamb, dogfish "alhada" and "sarapatel" soup are excellent examples. Sweets are represented by regional sweets such as “teculameca”, "Bolo da Sogra" and "Barrigas de Freira". The perfect combination of these delicacies is made with wines from the Portalegre region.
