The Queen Santa Isabel Bridge, designed by engineer António Reis, is the latest road crossing over the River Mondego, consisting of two lanes to three lanes in each direction. Its inauguration in 2004, allowed faster access to the zone of the Valley of flowers and the Polo II da Universidade de Coimbra.

The area features a stretch of Roman road, rural houses, and the chapel of Nossa Senhora do Tojeirinho as notable monuments. The region is rich in natural beauty, particularly the Lapas caves (only accessible with a guide). Black stone is quarried in this area for ornamentation and paving of squares and sidewalks. Rag dollwork is a prominent craft.

This Gothic church suffered several transformations, particularly on the 18th century. On the main chapel it is possible to stand out the most remarkable Joanine altarpiece from the city, the golden carved altarpieces, and pelmets in Rocaille style and glazed tiles panels showing scenes from Christ life. It is alo worthy to mention the sacristy with panelled ceiling, the two floors cloister, the Gothic chapter room from the 16th century, and the central fountain dating from the 18th century. The Chiado Museum or Modern Art National Museum, offers a panoramic of the Portuguese art from 1850 to 1960, from the romantic to the modernism period, going through the naturalism, the surrealism and the abstractionism periods. Subordinated to the theme “From Columbano till the Modernism”, this is the biggest collection of Portuguese contemporaneous art, with paintings, sculpture and drawings. It also has a French art collection from the end of the XIX century.

This church is also known as São Luís Church, together with the monastery it was founded in 1596 by Luís de Figueiredo Falcão and used to belong to the Clarisse orders. It has some elements from the sixteen hundreds and from the eighteen hundreds. From the first period, it stands out the only nave, the ceiling and the main chapel coverage; from the second period stands out the doorway, the windows and the main elevation.

The church, a fifteen hundreds foundation was remodelled on the 17th century. It presents a “pattern” glazed tiles panel, the pulpit and the barrel ceiling with empty coffers. From the medieval period stands out the ogival arches from the transept chapels recovered with glazed tiles from the 17th century and two Gothic tombstones. It also stands out two holly water fonts, both of them from the fifteen hundreds. From the Gospel side there is one chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Rosário with golden carving altarpieces.
