Porto de Mós
Porto de Mós is a municipality located within the protected area of Serras de Aires e Candeeiros, and it is one of the few municipalities in the region that not only has not lost population in recent decades, but has also experienced slight growth. The town of Porto de Mós (created in 1305 by King Dom Dinis) is closely linked to its characteristic castle, also called the Castle of D. Fuas Roupinho. The region is known for its impressive caves, and it is in Porto de Mós that you will find the most imposing: the Santo António Cave, the Alvados Cave and, above all, the famous Mira d'Aire Caves. Discovered in 1947, they are the largest caves in Portugal and, in 2010, were classified as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Portugal.
