Considered the largest archaeological crypt in the country, it is located beneath the Castle of Alcácer do Sal, now transformed into the Pousada D. Afonso II. It presents traces of the Iron Age dating from the 6th century BC, as well as structures from the Roman period and the Islamic occupation, covering a considerable area. Medieval walls from the post-Reconquista Christian era were also found, based partially on Roman walls which, in turn, overlap older pre-existing structures dating from the Iron Age.

Building formed by two separate volumes with different eras of construction: a 17TH century and another in the 18th century. The first presents a simple facade, in granite, with Renaissance-style balcony. The second displays a door with coat and six Windows of the facade, all of apron. The House has a 17th century chapel located near the second body. In this temple stands the Mannerist portal with the coat of arms of the Bishop of Porto.

The early church was built in the 16th century, which remains the Manueline portal. In 1970 was destroyed to make way for that today. The façade is rounded and consists of nave, chancel, belfry and vestry. Inside you can see 17TH century tiles and a wooden bench at the entrance, 1635, rebuilt during the rebuilding of the new Church. Currently, in late August, receives the feasts of Nossa Senhora do Desterro.

The construction of this building started in 1520 and lasted until the end of the century. The project is due to John Lee, the younger. Is one of the most interesting works of civil architecture of the time. The façade, facing the square, is formed by two balconies alpendradas with columns that are based on carved lavishly arched colonnades of arches of volta redonda. Despite being a Hermitage of medieval construction, reconstruction is expression chã, but was careful to keep the base structure. The chancel was renovated and became more narrow. The main façade, surmounted by a Latin cross, is torn by round arch portal and has small Windows on the sides. The interior features three sections defined with pillars that divide the 2 ships, one being quite narrow, unique feature in this region.

The main façade stands over a landing where one arrives from a stairway, under which there is passing water. One should notice the three stonework portals with a straight rod in architrave, the taller middle one, with an interrupted triangular gable, a cruxifix and forged iron gratings. Inside, one should pay close attention to the sculptured panel and to the side walls with blue painted wood.

Enlarged and remodeled in the 18th century, the Romanesque elements remaining in this church point a chronology right for your edification late, which will probably occurred between the 13th and 14th centuries. Medieval construction kept the main portal primitive, consisting of two slightly broken and archivolts supported by columns with capitals, whose sculpture is well attached to the basket. Located on the south bank of the Tâmega River and bordering Santa Maria de Sobretâmega, the Church of São Nicolau, next to the old Canaveses Bridge, displays a late design within the context of Portuguese Romanesque architecture, evident in its column-less, capital-less portals and plain corbels. This church preserves, though very fragmented, important remains of mural painting from the 16th and 17th centuries.

16th century church with Manueline portal, consisting of nave and chancel. The façade is distinguished by the Royal arms, with the date of 1808, and a Latin cross in the top. Inside are an altarpiece of João de Rouen, the talha, the paintings of the caissons and the two painted canvas of lateral cloths, representative of the visitation and da Nossa Senhora da Conceição.
