The Rio Maior Salt Pans Ecomuseum is located about 3 km from the city center and nestled in a valley at the foot of the Serra dos Candeeiros, in the heart of the Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park. Classified as a Property of Public Interest since December 1997, these salt pans are the only inland salt pans in Portugal. Building constructed in the 20th century where the services were installed in the municipality of Boticas, the notary office and the Court of Boticas. Already at the beginning of this century was built a new building, inaugurated in 2008, where he entered the services to the public, and the Presidency of 1893–1895 administration municipality of Boticas. All input is used as temporary exhibition room, where, every year, are patents to the public exhibitions, covering the most varied themes.

Only a few remains of this castle remain.
