According to tradition, this hermitage was founded by King Sancho I to commemorate the capture of Beja from the Moors in 1162. The ogival reconstruction, however, dates from the 15th century. It is part of the group of Gothic-Mudéjar constructions, typical of the Alentejo region, highlighting the narthex, the conical pinnacles and the battlements.

This cave was discovered by chance in 1961 during mining operations. Several tools from the Mousterian industry and stone artifacts from the Upper Paleolithic and Neolithic periods were found here. However, its most important find is a Neanderthal tooth, approximately 30,000 years old.

This Convent assembles a set of buildings of extreme beauty. Although it is a construction from the XV century it is yet what it was built for 500 years ago: a convent of Franciscan nuns. The main chapel of the Nossa Senhora da Conceição church owns a magnificent silver sacrarium. It also has a large glazed tiles carpet from the XVIII century, representing the famous Santa Clara stone monument and, at the entrance, an important gothic tomb from the end of the XV century.
