The construction of the primitive church was initiated at th end of the 17th century. Considred insufficient for all the faithful that came by, it was enlarged from the middle of the 18th century until the first decades of the 19th century, at which time the façade was finished. The tiles on the walls of the main chapel and the vault, reconstructed after the earthquake of 1755, are of the 18th century. One should pay close attention to the interior with rococo sculptures.

Traces of a probable ancient settlement, located to the West of the village of Peireses, at Carigo. Here was found some ceramic material of Roman chronology (tegullae). The land in question is not grown for some time now, what prevents a better visibility. Cinquentist palace sited at the Coimbra wall, between the Almedina Arch and the Anto Tower. It includes the Casa de Baixo (Institute) and the Casa de Cima (private). Adapted from a medieval tower, it has an interior organization close to the Middle Ages buildings. Outside is the magnificent manueline portal, which is now used as an entrance to the University of Coimbra Archaeology Institute.
