Celorico da Beira

Located in the Serra da Estrela mountain range, the town of Celorico da Beira is divided into two markedly distinct areas: the Serra area, with a part integrated into the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, where the climate is harsher; and the Vale area, which encompasses an extensive area along the Mondego River, where the climate is milder and the land is more fertile. Celorico da Beira is an essentially rural municipality, with sheep farming and cheese production as its main economic activities. This cheese is, in fact, one of the hallmarks of the region, with the municipality being known as the capital of Serra da Estrela Cheese. Be sure to also try the region's traditional cured meats, especially the hams.
