The parish of Gondar is crossed by two rivers that flow to the Tâmega river: Fornelo and Ovelha. The villag of Ovelhinha, located on the bank of one of those rivers, stands out for its river beach (beach of Ovelhinha) and by the roman bridge that crosses the river. Once the main village of the Gestaçô parish, the village currently has only about one hundred inhabitants. Its history is closely linked to the French invasions of the early 19th century, when several manors were set on fire by the invaders.

The House of the counts at Cano (Sousel), had his name given by locals of the village, as the first inhabitants of the House were the first counts of Valença, in the early 19th century. This archaeological site consists of six schist panels, featuring hundreds of insculptural engravings, engraved using three different techniques: incision, pecking, and abrasion. The engravings depict a variety of motifs, including weapons (spears, daggers, and blades), agricultural tools (sickles), geometric designs (zigzags, lattices, circles, triangles), and podomorphic and filiform designs, dimples, and more. Some are more recent, likely executed during the Late Bronze Age and early Iron Age. It is classified as a Property of Public Interest.

The Clock Tower was likely built in the late 16th or early 17th century, as part of the reorganization of the Praça do Município urban area. This building was erected near a group of buildings representing political, administrative, judicial, and economic power. Reusing an old city wall tower, it began to mark the boundary of Praça do Município and became one of Mértola's emblematic elements. In 1896, the original clock was replaced by a more recent one that continues to keep time in Vila Velha to this day.
