Built in 1715, by the spot where the medieval wall used to be, it had the castle behind, whose donjorl was preserved. In front of the arcade was the Campo de Santa Ana, ordered by D. Setúbal was once surrounded by two belts of walls. The first, called Muralha Afonsina for being constructed during the reign of King D. Afonso V, traced out the boundaries of Setúbal. João IV and was made to protect the village that expanded outside the first walls.
