The square has strong connections with the Discoveries, this was the former sand-pit where the Real cais de Belém used to anchor. Now it is a gardened area, sided by quickset hedges and trees (nettle-tree and stone pine), lake and sculptures, with the Afonso de Albuquerque, vice-king of India, statue, manueline style, standing out. This garden presents also four statues created by Barata Feio, placed at the square corners.

In the middle of the region of Alto Douro, classified as a world heritage site, a hotel of excellence located in Quinta do Loureiro. Along the left bank of the Douro River, the resort has a panoramic restaurant, outdoor pool and 28 themed rooms with reference to the costumes of the region.

Ancient cellar, currently with two quite well illuminated rooms, iy offers quite a pleasant atmosphere, warmed up by a fireplace, with background music. Good service and excellent traditional dishes. It has only wines of the Dão region and products of the Beira region.

This farm produces Vinho Verde, a wine so characteristic of this region. It produces white and red wine, marketed under the Todeia brand. Visitors can tour the vineyards and winery, sample regional flavors in a traditional kitchen, and even hike through beautiful landscapes.
