The castle was built during the reign of Dom Sancho I, on the ruins of an older fortification. During Dom Fernando's reign, it underwent restoration work and, in 1755, suffered extensive damage in an earthquake. Later, French invaders left the castle in a state of great degradation, which led to its complete abandonment. Today, it preserves some 14th-century towers, including the keep. The castle grounds have been transformed into a garden and are a pleasant place for leisure.

The Art Nouveau Museum of Aveiro, housed in one of the most emblematic buildings among the heritage of this artistic chain, is the interpretive center of the extensive network of Arte Nova motifs throughout the city of Aveiro. More than restoring the ornamental environment of an Art Nouveau dwelling, this museum nucleus treats the New Art as a didactic argument, intending to take the visitor to reflect on the assumptions of the aesthetic revolution that this movement provided, and better understand its reflexes that still today.
Igreja Nossa Senhora da Atalaia

A Mannerist building, rebuilt in the 18th century. The interior walls are covered in 17th-century blue and white tiles depicting scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary. At the back of the church is a eucalyptus grove that ends in a fountain, the Fonte da Senhora or Fonte Santa, where, according to legend, Our Lady of Atalaia appeared. The traditional symbolic "Lavagens" are still held there today during the parish's main pilgrimage, which takes place on the last Sunday in August.

Salir might have been the place where D. Paio Peres Correia awaited the arrival of D. Afonso III, so that together they could undertake the conquest of what remained in the province in the hands of the Moors. During the time of King Afonso III, this location became a stronghold, giving the castle a privileged role in the definitive conquest of the Algarve. It is presumed that the castle was burned down and rebuilt twice, and today only ruins of its walls remain.

This is a medieval tower with a quadrangular plan, initially part of the estate belonging to the Brandões lineage, which served as a fortified manor house with three floors. It consists only of the ruined structure of the four granite ashlar walls. On the northeast façade, a window extending to its base and corbels where a balcony (a type of wooden structure) would have rested stand out. On the main façade, a round-arched doorway with a lintel stands out. Visits are limited as it is located within the courtyard of a private house.

Circular castle facing the Tagus River, built in 1194 by Sir Afonso Pais and rebuilt in 1390 by Sir Nuno Álvares Pereira. It maintains the walls of the wall, partly battlemented and with traces of turrets. The entrance door was built in the 15th century and has a round arch. Inside the castle is the chapel of São Brás, which features a pleasant 17th century altarpiece. Belver Castle was the starting point for several actions against the Moors, and also served as support for King João I during the War of Independence.

Placed on the north side of Rossio, the National Theatre Dona Maria II, which name pays homage to the daughter of Dom Pedro, was built in the 1840s by the Italian architect Fortunato Lodi. The façade of this neoclassic building is composed by six columns coming from the São Francisco Convent and is ended by a triangular fronton where the figures of Apollo and the Muses are sculpted. On top of the fronton is possible to see the statue of Gil Vicente, maybe the most important Portuguese dramaturge of all times, considered to be the father of the national theatre.
