This effigy is a tribute of the city to the great poet António Nobre, former student of the Faculty of Law of Coimbra University. It is sited in a place called the “poets’ retreat”.

The target of several archaeological campaigns, the Vale do Mouro site has revealed a seven-thousand-year-old Neolithic settlement and a surprising Roman village, when it was thought the site had only been occupied in the third and fourth centuries AD. Silica and quartz flakes were found from the Neolithic period, while a mosaic panel, a unique find in inland Portugal, and a treasure trove of approximately 5,000 coins were discovered in the Roman bathhouse area. The Coriscada Sociocultural Center hosts a permanent exhibition dedicated to this site, the full significance of which remains to be seen.

This is a place to visit for the natural beauty and tranquillity that it offers. From here can be seen the Machados mill, there’s plenty of space for picnics and a good catch!

A rather scenic village whre one must visit the parish church and the Chapel of Saint António. Famed for its black clay craftswork.

Unhais-o-Velho is crossed by the Unhais river. The Parish Church, the Poligonal Chapel of Santo Cristo and the Chapel of Saint Sebastião are worth a visit.

House-museum where objects belonging to Egas Moniz, the only Portuguese doctor to receive the Nobel Prize for Medicine, in 1949, can be visited.
