Built in the 20th century, this old prison was used to serve a prison sentence of up to 3 months, which involved intimidation and continuous isolation in a cell, except for prisoners who adopted good behavior. It currently houses municipal services.

It is said that this was the House where they were horribly tortured prisoners by the inquisitors, although there is no documentary evidence. Contends that this House has been in the service of the Inquisition only as process file or as a prison until the prisoners being judged in the Court of Holy Office, in Évora.
Located in the Peniche Fortress, this space arose from the recognition of this fortress as a memorial site and a major symbol of the struggle for freedom on a national scale. Its mission is to preserve the historical memory of the Peniche Fortress and the struggle of the Portuguese people, and in particular, the resistance to the dictatorship, for freedom and democracy. There, visitors can see the cells, visiting rooms, and the recreation yard of the prison, which also served as a residence for Germans and Austrians during World War I.
