When you enter in Leiria you can’t avoid noticing the castle that, from the top, seems to welcome those coming into the city. Conquered to the Moors in 1135, by D. Afonso Henriques, the castle passed, for many years, from hand to hand between Moors and Christians. In 1190, D. Sancho I ordered its reconstruction. Later in 1325 D. Dinis orders the construction of the Torre de Menagem that, nowadays, shelters a museological nucleus, where you will get to know the castle activity in past times. It was also by D. On select days, it's possible to climb to the Lidador Tower viewpoint, where the City Hall services are located, and enjoy a privileged view of Maia and the entire Porto Metropolitan Area. Inaugurated in 2001 and standing 92 meters tall, this is the 5th tallest building in the country and the tallest outside Lisbon. Visible from any of its 10 parishes, the Tower is a landmark of the municipality and its most recognized brand image. Participation in the guided tour is free, but prior registration is mandatory.

Situated in praça da Ribeira, in the historic area of the city, this space occupies part of a block of buildings that date back to the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. The set of buildings is classified as a Unesco World Heritage site and lies on the River Douro. It offers 45 rooms and 3 suites decorated with refinement, a restaurant and a bar. From here you can discover the historic center, take a cruise on the Douro River or visit the port wine cellars, on the other side.

Classified as a national monument, it is one of the ex-libris of the city and one of the most original examples of the Baroque style in Portugal, having been built at the behest of D. João de Mendonça, Bishop of Guarda, around 1720. It features five lakes on the main slope, where the water features stand out, while the intermediate one has the Lago das Coroas and the Stairs of the Apostles and Kings, where all the Portuguese monarchs are represented. On the upper deck is the Staircase of Moses.

The Roman House was the first museum section of the Mértola Museum to open in 1989. It is located in the basement of the City Hall building. During renovation work, important archaeological remains corresponding to the foundations of a Roman house (today it serves as the main building) emerged. In addition to the walls of the old building, where part of the house's impluvium stands out, period architectural elements, funerary epigraphy, ceramics, and metalwork are on display. Each section has a permanent exhibition related to its theme.

This property of noble architectural design from the 17th century has a "mezzanine" on the upper floor of the facade that faces the street. The openings on the main floor have aprons, where treated volumes in the shape of diamond points were carved. The building was acquired and remodeled by the Bragança City Council in the 90s of the 20th century, currently housing the Library Dr. Águedo de Oliveira/Fundação "Os Nosso Livros", whose collection is considered one of the most valuable in the north of the country.
