Azenha do Mar originated from the commercial harvesting of red algae that grows on the southwest coast of Portugal, known scientifically as Gelidium sesquipedale. For this small, isolated fishing community, sea work is the main and almost exclusive economic activity for most of the year, but in the summer, the focus shifts to "slime harvesting" (algae harvesting), an activity that changes the seaweed's appearance and odor.

The Millenarian Coffee was born in the year in which the city of Guimarães celebrated 1000 years of existence, in November 1953, hence the name Millennium. Kartódromo offers several programs, aimed at adults, children, amateurs or professionals.

17th century church that took 17 years to be built. In the façade are worthy of notice the six big windows placed as if in civil building, ornamented with baroque motifs. Inside stands out the triumphal arch decoration and the crucified Christ sculpture at the secondary altar. At the back of the church was built the Capela dos Aflitos, standing out the glazed tile panel with the crucified Christ.
