The church dates back to the 17th century, with a single nave and a façade in Joanine Baroque style. Inside, the images and ceiling of the main altar stand out, with 36 paintings of saints and other sanctified symbols of martyrs from the early church. The oil paintings, by master Jerónimo da Cunha, date from the 18th century. Also, noteworthy is the gilded carving.

These two tombs from the fifteen hundreds are located on the wall and on the pavement inside the main chapel from the church of Pombeiro. One on the tombs is from Mateus da Cunha, from the XVI century with a Manueline style and which construction is ascribed to Diogo Pires-o-Moço; the other tomb is from Vão da Cunha, prior of Martinho de S. Guinhêda.

The chancel and altar are dedicated to this saint, a cult that dates back to the mid-18th century. The church consists of a rectangular nave and several dependencies, including the Dispatch Room. The main façade has an angular gable and quoins topped by pinnacles, and is pierced by a portal surmounted by a balustraded window with a broken pediment to accommodate the national coat of arms. Inside, the nave and elevated chancel are covered by the same three-tiered wooden ceiling, with the Joanine coat of arms painted on it.
