Batalha
The most prominent landmark in the municipality of Batalha is the imposing Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória, or Monastery of Batalha, one of the most striking examples of the Portuguese Gothic style, considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In addition to the architectural heritage that deserves to be visited, the municipality also thrives on handicrafts, gastronomy, and tourism, as it is part of the Leiria-Fátima Tourism Region. Wickerwork, weaving, tinware, porcelain, and pyrotechnics are symbols of the city. In gastronomy, highlights include dishes such as tachadéu (a fried pork dish served in a clay pot), "morcelas" (of rice, blood, or white), and codfish "tibornada". Sweets are represented by cakes like "ferradura", "cavacas do Reguengo do Fetal", "bolos de palma", "bolo de perna" and "pudim da Batalha".
