Located three kilometers from the city center, this palace is situated within a large estate. Built in the mid-18th century, it is attributed by some authors to the architect Nicolau Nasoni, mainly due to the exuberant Baroque style of its main facade. Located on a rocky terrain at the top of the Freita Mountain, this village is composed of a set of small granite houses with slate rooftops, surrounded by fertile lands. Of the once communal life, there still remain the functioning water mills. To recover thee traditional region's craftswork, classes have been organized according to the traditional techniques.

This library has thirty thousand books, from the most important works to dictionaries and monographies. Its most valuable book is the printing of "Os Lusíadas" by Emílio Biel. There is an exhibitions room where there are temporary educational exibitions, conferences and music. Aside the library there is also a Museum with archaeological artefacts, clothings and regional craftswork.

Established in 1911, this museum represents the island's culture, showcasing regional ceramics, agricultural implements, basketry, ethnographic pieces related to the cult of the Holy Spirit, and linen works primarily from the 19th and 20th centuries. Also noteworthy is the collection dedicated to Maestro Francisco de Lacerda, a native of São Jorge Island.
