Located in the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, the medieval-style village encompasses an urban agglomeration with around 150 houses, most dating from the 14th to the 16th century, which line the long, narrow streets.
Built in 1498 according to the design of Francisco de Arruda and, later, by Afonso Álvares, Diogo Marques and Pero Vaz Pereira, who finished it in 1622. Four floors of arcades supported by buttresses cut through the main part.

Chapel annexed to the parish church of Carrezedo dedicated to our Lady of the presentation. Inside lie the remains of the poet and humanist, Sá de Miranda (1481-1558). This grave is marked by an epitaph in Portuguese and Latin written on two stones.
