It lies between the Douro River to the north and the Paiva River to the south, bordering the city of Lamego. All the preserved villages at Armamar are part of a recovery project of the Rural Centre of São Martinho das Chãs. The village of São Martinho das Chãs is quite well recovered, both regarding the houses and the streets, with a perfect preservation of its rustic traits. In the village, one may visit the 13th century church, the Mother Church. From the campanile one has the most beautiful views.

From this river pier, boats depart for routes along the Douro River, between the Cogida river beach and La Code, Spain, on a journey that encompasses two natural parks: the Douro Internacional and Las Arribas del Duero. In addition to the region's characteristic flora, it's possible to observe birds such as the black stork, griffon vulture, golden eagle, Bonneli's eagle, kite, and Egyptian vulture in their natural habitat.

This pedestrian path starts in Ribeira Quente and ends in the village, with a duration of about three hours. Located on the Gralheira mountain, Manhouce has typically regional houses. Most of its inhabitants are shepherds. Even though it is located inland, one may view the sea from the mountain and that may have influenced the women's clothes. It has several roman vestiges, a road and two bridges. A special note to the singing of Manhouce and to the Grupo de Cantares de Manhouce (a folk group) as well.
