This church has one only nave with a high choir, main chapel and lateral chapel. It was integrated on a Franciscan Monastery from which it is kept the porch with three arches. The portico holds the Renaissance outline as well as the funerary chapel from D. Francisco Coutinho. On the inside stands out the fifteen hundreds paintings and the ceiling covered with coffers. Next to the main chapel there is a defensive tower.

This church stands out for its remarkable tile revestment and for its interest regarding the religious art, golden carvings and tiles. The high altar is revested by a rare pattern of the 17th century and the nave with tile panels with stories of the 18th century. The sacrarium of the high altar, carved, was made in 1731 by Francisco Machado. A special note, in the high altar, to the representation of Saint Anthony (centre), Saint Bento and Saint Peter, to the right, Saint John and Benedictine nun to the left. The remaining altars represent the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
