Characterized by a strong rural component, this set was once the centre of a playground area, in the town suburbs, organized in several farms, most of them long lost. Standing out there is a small house from the “pombalino” period, on the north top of the square, the asylum-school building “Viscondessa dos Olivais”, with more noble characteristics, and the Santa Mary church, with an initial 17th century sketch and profoundly altered after the earthquake.

Implanted in what used to be the outskirts of Benfica, the Grandela Quarter was meant to lodge the workers from “Sociedade Algodoeira do Fomento Colonial” and the employees from the “Armazéns Grandela” (both property of Francisco Grandela). The building plan had a mainly private character, with railings and gates bounding the whole disposed along three streets. Also, noteworthy is the Talefe or Alter Pedroso natural viewpoint.
