The Inha, Ul and Uima rivers, that fetilize the lands, run along its valleys. This is a very ancient village, people since very early days, as is proved by the Castro (a celtic village) of Romariz, a public interest construction, that goes back to the year 500 bC. Its craftswork includes cork objects, decorative marbles and ceramics.

Temple of neo-baroque structure, built in the early 20th century, on the site of the apparitions of our Lady. Dominated by a central tower of several floors, the colonnade is decorated by ceramic panels representing the Via Crucis. Designed by the Dutch architect Gerard van Kriechen and continued by the architect João Antunes, stands out for its dimensions, the statue of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in the niche of the tower and the mosaic that represents the Holy Trinity crowning of our Lady.

Museu de Mértola - Basílica Paleocristã

This funerary basilica was located next to the Roman road connecting Mértola to Beja. This important monument was partially excavated in the late 19th century, and several funerary inscriptions were recovered from it, now housed in the National Archaeological Museum in Lisbon. Currently, it houses a museum where the foundations and floors of the former church are preserved. This museum contains inscribed stelae, which constitute the most important collection of Early Christian tombstones found in Portugal.

A grand house commissioned in the early 19th century, only completed almost thirty years later. It features an L-shaped floor plan, with two large facades and two turrets topped by balustrades and pinnacles. Inside, the rooms boast neoclassical décor. Outside, a landscaped terrace is flanked by high walls. The palace, despite being on private property dedicated to the production of one of the region's most renowned Alvarinho wines, is open to visitors.

The collection encompasses ethnography, archaeology, painting, sculpture, and photography. Within this space are objects from the Paleolithic period to the present century, which primarily depict the maritime life of Nazaré, the history of the town, and the Marian devotion to Our Lady of Nazaré.
