At the foot of the Serra do Larouco, among o Corgo o Corgo and do Fojo of the Goatherd, 1090 ft maximum altitude is a rugged Hill that was once a fortified settlement of pre-Roman times. Fortified village, with a thick line of surrounding wall, built with Earth and pebbles, in partial ruin. The most obvious traces of this town are focused on the line of Hadrian's wall, with about 6.5 meters wide. Inside the village does not detect ceramic materials to the surface. Deploys on the northern slope of the serra do Barroso at the beginning of vale do Rabagão, on its left bank. Fortified settlement of small size. Inside the granite outcrops abound, some of which form natural shelters.

The main facade of the chapel of Santo António has a ported rectangular overmatched by a bell tower with a little Bell, topped with pinnacles and a cross in clover. Inside, stripped of ostentatious, excels in the colourful ceiling, lined in wood, painted and decorated in the central part, an oval medallion with the image of Nossa Senhora do Amparo, former patron of this temple. The high altar, in gilt, occupies the entire head of the Chapel and religious devocionário's imaginary location: Nossa Senhora do Amparo, Santo António and São Caetano.

It is thought that the initial construction of the Church of São Lourenço dates back to the end of the 13th century, but nothing remains of that primitive construction. With a single nave, dating from the 17th century, the church is characterized by tiles that relate passages in the life of S. Lourenço (patron of the church), dating back to 1749. From the various chapels that make it up (S. Sebastião, S. João Baptista, Nossa Senhora do Rosário and Nossa Senhora dos Anjos) that of S. Sebastião is also classified as a Property of Public Interest.

The Clock Tower was likely built in the late 16th or early 17th century, as part of the reorganization of the Praça do Município urban area. This building was erected near a group of buildings representing political, administrative, judicial, and economic power. Reusing an old city wall tower, it began to mark the boundary of Praça do Município and became one of Mértola's emblematic elements. In 1896, the original clock was replaced by a more recent one that continues to keep time in Vila Velha to this day.
